ADVANCES OF PYROPTOSIS IN PATHOGENESIS OF OSTEOARTHRITIS AND KASHIN-BECK DISEASE
Abstract
Osteoarthritis (OA) is mainly characterized by degeneration of articular cartilage, and its pathogenesis is not fully understood yet. Pyroptosis is a new type of programmed cell death that discovered in recent years. It is a powerful weapon for the body to resist internal and external stimuli and palys a positive role in some diseases. However, if it occurs excessively, it can also induce pathological inflammation and participate in occurrence and development of some diseases. Recent studies have shown that pyroptosis plays an important role in the development of OA. Kashin-Beck Disease (KBD) is an endemic and deformed OA, its pathogenesis is not fully elucidated yet. As a special type of OA, KBD’s pathological features are basically as same as OA. So, pyroptosis may also be involved in occurrence and development of KBD. Therefore, this paper reviews the progress of pyroptosis in the pathogenesis of OA and KBD.Issue
