Abstract

Value Stream Mapping (VSM) is an important lean manufacturing technique. It collects detailed information at every workstation. This information includes set up time, work-in-process inventory (WIP), resource utilization, Value-Adding (VA) activities, Non-Value-Adding Activities (NVA), and detailed information about the flow from raw materials to finished products. In this work, the principles of VSM are applied to reduce the lead time of manufacturing Bi-Metal Relays in reputed switchgear manufacturing company, by eliminating/reducing the several NVA activities. VSM is done for four major bottleneck components of Relay and there is a considerable reduction in NVA, and lead time with an increase in Process Cycle Efficiency (PCE).
