MOTHER’S ABANDONMENT IN NANCY HUSTON’S LA VIREVOLTE
Abstract
In Nancy Huston’s 1994 novel La Virevolte and her 1996 English translation Slow Emergencies, her protagonist worked hard to balance motherhood and career to no avail, and eventually gave up her family to dance. Huston’s in-depth analysis of family dynamics before and after a mother’s abandoned shows a real desire for the complexity of negotiating mothers. In this article, the evolution of the role is analyzed from the perspective of Beauvoir’s theory of motherhood.Issue
