FROM CULTURE TO BUDDHISM: ACADEMIC TRANSFORMATION OF THE 20TH CENTURY’S CHINESE BUDDHISM
Abstract
Transmission and innovation of the 20th century’s Chinese Buddhism has one background, three threads and one transformation. It occurs under the background of cultural transformation, a process of self-renewing and selfcorrection to accept new Western ideas and methods. Three threads refer to transmission lines of three branches of 20th century’s Chinese Buddhism, Monastery monk, Jushi, and Scholar Buddhism. which have different features for their different cultural missions and academic purposes and also interactive aspects for their same background. The transformation means the 20th century’s Chinese Buddhism has transformed from pragmatism to academic research.Issue
